Specification

Compound monograph — Recovery Rush

Recovery Rush is a research solution built around two thiols, N-acetyl cysteine and glutathione at 100 mg/ml each, with glycine at 50 mg/ml and choline, taurine and glutamine at 25 mg/ml. Its components are studied separately: NAC as a source of cysteine, hydrogen sulfide and sulfane sulfur in cells, glutathione synthesis and its regulation by γ-glutamylcysteine synthetase, taurine in heart and muscle physiology, choline in phosphatidylcholine homeostasis, and glycine in models of cell injury. No study of this combination is cited. Lot data are on the certificate of analysis. It is sold strictly for laboratory research use.

Composition

  • N-Acetyl Cysteine 100mg/ml
  • Choline 25mg/ml
  • Glycine 50mg/ml
  • Glutathione 100mg/ml
  • Taurine 25mg/ml
  • Glutamine 25mg/ml

Components

  • N-Acetyl Cysteine: N-acetyl-L-cysteine. CAS 616-91-1; C5H9NO3S; 163.20 g/mol; PubChem CID 12035
  • Choline: Choline (cation) (salt form not stated on the listing). CAS 62-49-7; C5H14NO+; 104.17 g/mol; PubChem CID 305
  • Glycine: Glycine. CAS 56-40-6; C2H5NO2; 75.07 g/mol; PubChem CID 750
  • Glutathione: Glutathione (reduced). CAS 70-18-8; C10H17N3O6S; 307.33 g/mol; PubChem CID 124886
  • Taurine: Taurine. CAS 107-35-7; C2H7NO3S; 125.15 g/mol; PubChem CID 1123

  • Form: Solution in a sealed vial, concentrations as listed under Composition
  • Analytical methods: Identity and purity data reported on the batch certificate of analysis

Research applications

  • N-acetyl cysteine: In cultured cells, NAC-derived cysteine was desulfurated to hydrogen sulfide and oxidized to sulfane sulfur species, mainly within mitochondria, which the authors propose mediate its immediate antioxidative effects [1]
  • Glutathione synthesis: Reviewed for the two-step synthesis of glutathione by γ-glutamylcysteine synthetase and GSH synthetase, with γ-GCS as the rate-limiting step regulated by cysteine supply and GSH feedback [2]
  • Taurine: Reviewed for its roles in heart and muscle, including Ca2+ transporter activity, osmoregulation in some species, membrane stabilization and indirect regulation of oxidative stress; taurine depletion is linked to cardiomyopathy [3]
  • Choline: Reviewed for the CDP-choline pathway of phosphatidylcholine synthesis, choline oxidation to betaine and conversion to acetylcholine, drawing on knockout mouse models [4]
  • Glycine: Reviewed for anti-inflammatory and cytoprotective effects in models of shock and ischemia/reperfusion, including proposed activation of a plasma-membrane chloride channel in inflammatory cells such as macrophages [5]
