Compound monograph — Body Boost

Body Boost is a multi-component amino acid solution combining N-acetyl cysteine and proline at 50 mg/ml with histidine HCl, glycine, lysine, valine and branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) at 25 mg/ml each. Its components have been studied separately in preclinical and biochemical work: NAC as a glutathione precursor, proline as a substrate for collagen biosynthesis in fibroblasts, histidine as a carnosine and histamine precursor, glycine in models of inflammation and cell injury, and BCAA catabolism. No study of this specific combination is cited here. Research Market supplies it with lot data on the certificate of analysis. It is sold strictly for laboratory research use.

Composition

  • N-Acetyl Cysteine 50mg/ml
  • Proline 50mg/ml
  • Histidine HCL 25mg/ml
  • Glycine 25mg/ml
  • Lysine 25mg/ml
  • Valine 25mg/ml
  • BCAA 25mg/ml

Components

  • N-Acetyl Cysteine: N-acetyl-L-cysteine. CAS 616-91-1; C5H9NO3S; 163.20 g/mol; PubChem CID 12035
  • Proline: L-proline. CAS 147-85-3; C5H9NO2; 115.13 g/mol; PubChem CID 145742
  • Histidine HCL: L-histidine monohydrochloride. CAS 645-35-2; C6H10ClN3O2; 191.61 g/mol; PubChem CID 66091
  • Glycine: Glycine. CAS 56-40-6; C2H5NO2; 75.07 g/mol; PubChem CID 750
  • Lysine: L-lysine. CAS 56-87-1; C6H14N2O2; 146.19 g/mol; PubChem CID 5962
  • Valine: L-valine. CAS 72-18-4; C5H11NO2; 117.15 g/mol; PubChem CID 6287
  • BCAA: Branched-chain amino acids. The product listing does not state which amino acids or in what ratio, so no single PubChem record applies
  • Form: Solution in a sealed vial, concentrations as listed under Composition
  • Analytical methods: Identity and purity data reported on the batch certificate of analysis

Research applications

  • N-acetyl cysteine: Reviewed as a reduced glutathione precursor and as a disulfide-breaking agent that releases free thiols from thiolated proteins [1]
  • Proline and collagen: Reviewed for the role of proline in collagen biosynthesis; in cultured fibroblasts, added proline had little effect in glutamine-containing medium but sharply increased collagen biosynthesis in glutamine-free medium [2]
  • Histidine: Reviewed as an essential amino acid that is a precursor of carnosine in muscle and brain and of histamine via histidine decarboxylase, with hepatic catabolism that requires folate [3]
  • Glycine: Reviewed for anti-inflammatory and cytoprotective effects in models of shock and ischemia/reperfusion, including proposed activation of a plasma-membrane chloride channel in inflammatory cells such as macrophages [4]
  • Branched-chain amino acids: Reviewed for the shared catabolic enzymes of leucine, isoleucine and valine (BCAT and BCKDH) and their links to metabolic disorders [5]
