Compound monograph — Energy Lipo Mix

Energy Lipo Mix is a six-component research solution containing L-carnitine, vitamin B12, vitamin B6, inositol, methionine and choline at the per-mL concentrations listed below. Several of its components meet in mitochondrial fatty acid transport and one-carbon metabolism: carnitine carries long-chain fatty acids into mitochondria, B12 and methionine sit in the methionine cycle, and rodent diets lacking methionine and choline are a standard model of hepatic lipid accumulation. The references below cover the individual components, not this combination. Research Market supplies Energy Lipo Mix with lot documentation on its certificate of analysis. It is sold strictly for laboratory research use.

Composition

  • L-CARNITINE 200MG/ML
  • B 12 250MCG/ML
  • B6 25MG/ML
  • INOSOTOL 50 MG/ML
  • METHIONINE 25MG/ML
  • CHOLINE 50MG/ML

Components

  • L-Carnitine: CAS 541-15-1, C7H15NO3, 161.2 g/mol, PubChem CID 10917
  • Vitamin B12 (cobalamin): chemical form (for example cyanocobalamin or methylcobalamin) is not stated on the product label; see the batch certificate of analysis
  • Vitamin B6: chemical form (for example pyridoxine hydrochloride or pyridoxal 5′-phosphate) is not stated on the product label; see the batch certificate of analysis
  • Inositol: CAS 87-89-8, C6H12O6, 180.16 g/mol, PubChem CID 892 (PubChem record for inositol; the isomer is not stated on the label)
  • Methionine: CAS 63-68-3, C5H11NO2S, 149.21 g/mol, PubChem CID 6137 (PubChem record for L-methionine; the isomer is not stated on the label)
  • Choline: CAS 62-49-7, C5H14NO+, 104.17 g/mol, PubChem CID 305 (PubChem record for the choline cation; the salt form is not stated on the label)
  • Form: Supplied in solution at the per-mL concentrations listed above

Research applications

  • Carnitine and fatty acid oxidation: Reviewed as essential for transferring long-chain fatty acids across the inner mitochondrial membrane for β-oxidation, with cellular uptake through the OCTN2 carnitine transporter [1]
  • Vitamin B12 and the methionine cycle: Reviewed as the cofactor for methylmalonyl-CoA mutase and methionine synthase, the enzyme that remethylates homocysteine to methionine and supports S-adenosylmethionine production [2]
  • Vitamin B6: Reviewed as an enzymatic cofactor and as an antioxidant that quenches reactive oxygen species, with coverage of its biosynthesis, transport and catabolism [3]
  • Inositols: Myo-inositol and D-chiro-inositol were reviewed for their roles in endocrine signal transduction and in ovarian steroidogenesis [4]
  • Methionine and choline deficiency model: In db/db and db/m mice, a methionine choline-deficient diet increased hepatic fatty acid uptake and reduced triglyceride secretion, two mechanisms of intrahepatic lipid accumulation in this model [5]
