Prostamax

Prostamax is the synthetic tetrapeptide Lys-Glu-Asp-Pro (KEDP), the prostate-oriented member of the Khavinson series. Much of its literature measures chromatin structure in lymphocytes from donors aged 75 and older: sister chromatid exchange, nucleolar organizer activity and heterochromatin melting by microcalorimetry. The Prostamax peptide has also been tested on prostate explants in organ culture. Research applications

• Chromatin in aged lymphocytes: In cells from donors aged 75 to 86, Prostamax raised sister chromatid exchange frequency and Ag-positive nucleolar organizer regions and reduced large pericentromeric heterochromatin variants on chromosomes 1 and 9 [1]
• Chromatin thermal profile: Microcalorimetry of human lymphocytes showed Prostamax redistributing heat between chromatin denaturation endotherms and shifting them to lower temperatures [2]
• Comparative peptide study: In leukocytes from subjects aged 75 to 88, Prostamax and four other short peptides activated ribosomal genes; Prostamax also decondensed chromosome 1 pericentromeric chromatin [3]
