Compound monograph — Morning Relax

Morning Relax is a six-component research blend of GABA, arginine, magnesium glycinate, theanine, taurine and glutamine in the amounts listed below. Its components tie into neurotransmitter chemistry studied in preclinical work: glutamine and GABA cycle between neurons and astrocytes, magnesium takes part in nerve transmission and limits excitotoxicity, theanine has been tested in a rat stroke model, and taurine is among the most abundant amino acids in brain and retina. The references below cover the individual components, not this combination. Research Market supplies Morning Relax with lot documentation on its certificate of analysis. It is sold strictly for laboratory research use.

Composition

  • GABA 100MG
  • ARGININE 100MG
  • MAGNESIUM GLYCINATE 100MG
  • THEANINE 50MG
  • TAURINE 50MG
  • GLUTAMINE 25MG

Components

  • GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid): CAS 56-12-2, C4H9NO2, 103.12 g/mol, PubChem CID 119
  • Arginine: CAS 74-79-3, C6H14N4O2, 174.2 g/mol, PubChem CID 6322 (PubChem record for L-arginine; the isomer is not stated on the label)
  • Magnesium glycinate: CAS 14783-68-7, C4H8MgN2O4, 172.42 g/mol, PubChem CID 84645
  • Theanine: CAS 3081-61-6, C7H14N2O3, 174.2 g/mol, PubChem CID 439378 (PubChem record for L-theanine; the isomer is not stated on the label)
  • Taurine: CAS 107-35-7, C2H7NO3S, 125.15 g/mol, PubChem CID 1123
  • Glutamine: CAS 56-85-9, C5H10N2O3, 146.14 g/mol, PubChem CID 5961 (PubChem record for L-glutamine; the isomer is not stated on the label)
  • Form: Fill amounts as listed above; physical form is stated on the vial label and batch certificate of analysis

Research applications

  • Glutamate/GABA–glutamine cycle: Reviewed as the shuttle in which neurons release glutamate or GABA, astrocytes take it up, and astrocytes return glutamine to neurons as a neurotransmitter precursor [1]
  • Arginine metabolism: Reviewed as a precursor of urea, nitric oxide, polyamines, proline, glutamate, creatine and agmatine, with limited arginine availability affecting expression of specific genes [2]
  • Magnesium and the nervous system: Reviewed for its role in nerve transmission, neuromuscular conduction and protection against excitotoxicity, across research on migraine, epilepsy, stroke and other neurological conditions [3]
  • Theanine in ischemia models: In rats with 30-minute middle cerebral artery occlusion, L-theanine given 3 or 12 hours into reperfusion reduced infarct size, and intrastriatal theanine prevented injury from glutamate receptor agonists [4]
  • Taurine: Reviewed as an organic osmolyte and modulator of intracellular free calcium that is not incorporated into proteins, and the most abundant amino acid in the rat retina, vitreous, lens, cornea, iris and ciliary body [5]
